Artlando is all about the artists, and you can get the chance to meet some of the performing artists and learn more about their groups at the Meet the Artists tent located next to the Main Stage.
2nd Sight Dance
This Orlando dance company, founded in 2014 by artistic director G. Edward Owens, strives to change how people perceive dance and illusion. The organization produces innovative and original dance compositions that blend traditional dance styles, like ballet, with modern dance and interactive theater.
Ashley Inguanta and Sarah Morrison
Poet, writer, photographer and artist Ashley Inguanta reads excerpts from her work accompanied by solo violinist Sarah Morrison, who performs modern, experimental and classical music. The performance will be intertwined with projected photographic images.
Beth Marshall Presents
With a special focus on original, socio-political art, this Orlando-based independent production company stages theatre, dance, music and multi-media performance art for touring festival circuits. Longtime Orlando Fringe Festival producer Beth Marshall strives to bridge the gap for emerging artists transitioning to professional theatre through events like Play-In-A-Day, during which she helps more than 100 artists create short plays that are written, produced and presented in the course of 24 hours.
Central Florida Community Arts presents Legacy!
Through its community of musicians and partnerships with nonprofits, CFCArts helps artists of all ages connect, serve and perform. Its mission is to make arts accessible to everybody, and it offers programs for people of all ages and socioeconomic backgrounds. At Artlando, the CFCArts community choir presents Legacy!, a show that encompasses a variety of musical styles, including Broadway, gospel, patriotic and jazz performances.
Davey Rocker’s Barnyard Jam
From the mind of the man who was once described by Orlando Weekly as one of the city’s greatest musical assets comes a foot-stomping sing-a-long featuring theatrical puppetry and original tunes written for cool kids. In this family-friendly musical, Davey Rocker takes audiences of all ages on a tour around the farm, introducing all of his barnyard buddies.
Central Florida’s only full-time single screen cinema café and home to the Eden Bar and Florida Film Festival, the Enzian specializes in independent and foreign films with unique dining options and a variety of special programming. Special Artlando programming includes short films presented on the main stage screen.
Florida Tribal Dance
FTD specializes in tribal belly dance, which is an American genre that combines elements from Spanish, North African, Middle Eastern and Indian dances. FTD offers weekly classes and workshops with visiting instructors. Their troupes Black V, Blue Caravan and Silver Sage frequently perform at local events and celebrations.
This acoustic and electric string ensemble proves that violins and cellos aren’t just for classical music. Whether they’re performing pieces from Mozart or Metallica, they know how to please a crowd – they were voted one of three best bands in Orlando Magazine‘s 2014 Best of Wedding Awards and they’ve provided the musical accompaniment for Orlando Weekly’s Bite Night event for 2014 and 2015.
Founded in 2009, Gemini Blvd. is an award-winning University of Central Florida co-ed a cappella group that performs tunes from a variety of musical eras. The vocal ensemble was second runner up in the 2014-2015 International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella and recently released an EP titled B.Y.O.V. (Bring Your Own Voice).
Huellas de Colombia Folkdances
This group, which performs folkloric dances from different regions of Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela, is dedicated to fostering Colombian culture, folklore and traditions. Through a variety of rhythms and techniques and popular dances, their shows are a colorful representation of South American culture.
Ibex Puppetry featuring Voci Dance
Helmed by Jim Henson’s daughter Heather, the acclaimed puppetry company is known for its Handmade Puppet Dreams project, Puppet Slam Network and Orlando Puppet Festival. The company is devoted to health and healing for the planet via the fine art of puppetry, and its ethereal, earthy performances are a spectacle of colorful creations that reflect the wonders of nature.
Magic and Mayhem
This live-entertainment production company specializes in comedy magic shows that combine costumes, props, music, sound and lights to create complete theatrical productions appropriate for all audiences. The duo of magicians has produced numerous award-winning and critically acclaimed shows including “Bunnies In Peril” and “Theater of the Unexplained.”
Orlando’s resident ballet company (and school) of full-time professional local and international dancers is redefining ballet for modern audiences. For its 2015-2016 season the ballet will present Giselle, Uncorked at the Abbey and seasonal favorite the Nutcracker.
Orlando Ballet School
Regarded as one of the finest classical dance academies in the world, the official school of the Orlando Ballet trains dancers beginning at age 3 to reach their full artistic and professional potential.
Orlando Indie Comedy Fest
Spanning four days at venues throughout Winter Park, the Milk District and Mills 50, this festival showcases independent stand-up comedians from across the country. Its 2015 production, which begins on Oct. 1, presents acclaimed comedians Sean Patton and Eddie Pepitone as headliners. Get a taste of what’s in store at today’s event.
Orlando School of Cultural Dance
Established in 1989, the school teaches African dance to both children and adults. Its goal is to help children develop a positive self-image so they can grow into leaders of tomorrow. Other disciplines, including ballet, tap and modern dance, are taught, as well as music theory, percussion and fitness.
Orlando Science Center
One of the top learning museums in the country, OSC features interactive exhibits, programs like Family Science Night and Science Night Live, two giant-screen theaters and the Crosby Observatory, a colossal refractor telescope accessible to the public.
Orlando Shakespeare Theater – Selections from Spamalot
One of the top Shakespeare companies in the country, Orlando Shakespeare Theater produces a regular season, which opens this year with the Tony award-winning musical Spamalot. OST will perform selections from the comedy written by Eric Idle and based on the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
PB&J Theatre Factory
Producers Todd and Timea Zimmerman use rich, innovative and simple storytelling to produce engaging and inspiring theatrical performances for audiences of all ages. Shows include Sleigh, Snack, Splash, Smooch and Shhhh!
A critically acclaimed Victorian steampunk circus troupe led by creator John DiDonna offers treats and tricks with its unique blend of storytelling, dance, puppetry, aerial work and fire performance.
Poetry Smackdown Team Poetry Slam
The same group who brought you the Fringe Fest favorite the Poetry Vending Machine will stage a poetry slam live onstage.
Raskin Dance Studio
The proof is in the performance at Raskin Dance Studio, where beginner, advanced and professional students can perfect their craft. The school specializes in ballet, jazz, modern and tap dance, as well as in musical theater, hip-hop, contemporary, tumbling, acrobatics, pointe, acting, singing, painting, drawing, violin and piano.
Rock Hard Revue
Featured in America’s Got Talent season nine, this troupe of costumed and choreographed sexy male performers is kind of like Orlando’s own version of Magic Mike. Live vocals and audience participation get the crowd … excited. Launched in 2012, Rock Hard Revue is directed and choreographed by David Greenhouse, former director and choreographer of Chippendales in Las Vegas and choreographer of Joe Manganiello’s La Bare in Dallas. The troupe performs shows every Saturday night at Gilt Nightclub.
SAK Comedy Lab
Since 1991, this professional improv troupe has entertained audiences in the style of Whose Line Is it Anyway? by making up characters, scenes and songs on the spot. SAK has been the launch pad for comedian Wayne Brady and writers, actors and producers for Mad TV, Saturday Night Live and The Office.
With skillfully executed shows, cabaret-style seating and inviting lobby, The Venue presents quality local artistry and theatre in a kitschy and whimsical environment. Now an Ivanhoe Village mainstay, this blackbox playhouse is the creation of Orlando’s queen of burlesque, Blue Star.
Intricate spatial patterns, powerful floor work and delicate gestures grounded in the influence of modern dance greats make Yow Dance one of Central Florida’s most dynamic dance companies. They have performed at Theatre Downtown, Seminole State College Performing Arts Theatre and the Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival.
